Pay Rise for in Demand Jobs in the Tech Industry

The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is paving the way for an increasing demand in tech jobs, particularly for those with skills or interest in AI. This uptrend has caused salaries of software engineers in Singapore to surge to an all-time high of 7.6%.

According to a report by NodeFlair, a tech talent platform, junior engineers can earn up to $5,000, while senior engineers can earn up to $8,000, and engineering managers can earn up to $13,750. Data, blockchain, and mobile engineers are also seeing an increased pay.

In fact, 6 out of the top 15 most searched companies are paying their workforce 20% more than the rest of the industries. Ethan Ang, CEO and Co-Founder of NodeFlair, said that the demand for tech professionals is the reason for the pay bumps, with companies counting on such jobs to boost the growth of their business.

Despite the demand, AI will still reshape the way these tasks will move going forward. Companies such as Meta and Tiktok have built expert AI teams to gain an edge, just like Microsoft, which has invested in Open AI. These AI teams can take on tasks such as spreadsheet organizations, email, speeches, and itineraries.

Gina Wong, Managing Director of Kyndryl Singapore, said that AI roles and teams will become more mainstream as businesses are looking to scale their company and operations.

Mr. Bensen Koh of tech policy consultancy Access Partnership suggested that while there will always be a need for expert coders, the use of generative AI and low-code, no-code platforms can boost productivity and decrease reliance on hardcore coders producing similar codes.

Consequently, these trends are expected to lead to a more diverse workforce, in terms of expertise and skills. This aligns with the growing trend among companies to focus on skill-based courses over traditional degrees.
